Napier Library readies itself for summer bookworms

Young Napier bookworms will again be immersing themselves in their imaginations this summer, with Napier Libraries popular summer reading programme starting soon.

The programme helps to grow the love of reading for our younger community in a fun and rewarding way. The passionate team at Napier Libraries is aiming for a record number of registrations this year, to beat 316 in 2020.

Vanessa Langman, Customer Service Lead says books are a fail-safe entertainment option for kids over the long holiday break.

“Reading is an activity that can be done anywhere, anytime and isn’t affected by Covid-19 restrictions. Not only that, it helps to keep young minds active when school is out for many weeks.”

Napier Libraries is offering two programmes – one for 4 to 10-year-olds and one for age 10 and up. Both programmes offer a prize draw system to encourage lots of reading. Details are at napierlibrary.co.nz. The more books that are read, the more entries participants will have into the prize draw. All participants who complete the programme will receive a certificate.

Both programmes have previously received positive feedback from young customers, who appreciate having a goal to work towards and having the chance to discuss their books with the librarians.

Registrations are now open and can be done online through the children’s section of the Napier Libraries website. The programme runs from 6 December until 23 January.
